History:
In the ancient days Adoor,Madhur,Kavu(mujungavu),Kanipura(Kumble) where the 4 important temples called Sema temples of Kasaragod where headed by the Royal family of Maippady.
If those are the main temples there are sub temples also present in the sema. They are listed as follows: Padi, Maippady, Kudreppady, Narampady. All these place consist of village temples(grama devasthanam).
Here in Kudreppady Shree Subramanya swamy temple According to one legend neneshasthara (vanashasthara) was in the first preference. Here lord shasthara is worshiped in two different forms neneshasthara (vanashasthara) and gudishasthara.
According to the astamangala prashne the sacred place worshiped here is more than 1000 years old. But there are no historical records to establish it. According to the other legend only vanashasthara was worshiped in this sacred place by Ajjavara family around 1500-1600AD. But due to shasthara dosha their family struggled for the survival of their rays .To save Ajjavara family and kudreppady temple Maippady palace King established gudishasthara and renewed vanashasthara.
During 1600-1700AD Maippady king renewed the temple and made provision for the devotees to worship lord vanashasthara who was worshiped by the extinct family of Ajjavara, lord gudishasthara who was worshiped by family of Ajjavara, also they established a beautiful black stone idol of lord subramanya, along with raktheshwari,naga,guliga. But only lord subramanya is in the garbhagudi(sanctum sanctorum).
On 1960 nalkambala was destroyed by natural calamities but the pooja never stopped. Punar naveekarana asthabandha bramhakalashothsava was done on 1989 to renew the temple.from then on one day shasthi mahothsava done by the devotees. Asthabandha bramhakalashothsava was done again on 2001 as a temple requires a asthabandha bramhakalashothsava for every 12 years.Here once again the temple is ready for renovation and process under going.
